Well I have had problems with my mic, I naviagate to the freenode.org
irc and #alsa channel
they have sound guru's who can answer and help you with your questions.
they use the results of this script to anyalyze your setup and using
alsamixer are best able to
guide you on settings that might work, that and with this report they
can see if there is a need
for any software updating.
wget -O alsa-info.sh http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash
./alsa-info.sh
you do that in a terminal, it asks if you want to paste the
information and you will be given a
url, that url has all the information the script gets about your
system, you can view it yourself
or go the to above channel and ask for help.
this is what they set for me.
amixer set 'IntMic' cap (works on thinkpad........)
arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c1 -r48000 -d 5 test.wav (now works on
thinkpad 05-04-08)
