Weird Behaviour In Top Panel in Jaunty

A couple of keys jumped off my USB keyboard so I changed over to a PS/2
keyboard (the only other one I had available).
After that each window scrolled upwards very fast and when I clicked on
the bluetooth icon, it filled up the panel and beyond. When I try to
click on the menu lists (Message, Places, System), I get the popup for
the bluetooth application and it wont let me gain access to the menu
lists.
I've rebooted to no avail, and even reinstalled with no effect. Should
I remove thee icons individually (the seems to be no way of removing
them en bloc), but how do I know I'm actually deleting instances?
Could somebody be so good as to advise me what to do?
