I know it is not the way they suggest, but I feel there is nothing
like a fresh install. It even smells different, like a new car.
If you just happen to have 10Gigs available in your hd (12 for you G.)
or even less, put your new system there, sharing the /home partition.
It's foolproof (**I'm not referring to you NoOp**, I'm just
wandering), you can go back anytime.
Of course you will have to fiddle with Grub and reinstall your
software of choice, but then you may realize that, anyway, you
probably did not need all that stuff.
