Dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu: XP won't boot.

    I had that problem when I had 2 HD and one was a SATA which the BIOS 
had a hard time with. I went nuts because the number of the HD would 
change! I solved it by removing one HD.

    What blew my mind was looking at them with a LiveCD the SATA was 
drive 0. But when I was on the SATA HD it had changed to drive 1! I 
figured out why with a lot of tests but it was not a fix.

I suggest you look at your 2 HD from a LiveCD and see if you get the 
same sort of changes.
