I have an MS VX-1000 webcam that uses exactly the same chipset as that
of yours and I can't make it work here either. I've read somewhere that
there is a problem with the UVC kernel driver that prevents it from
working. However, I've also read that this has been fixed in later
versions of the kernel and have seen some reports stating that it works
out of the box with the kernel used in the next version of Ubuntu
(karmic). Some people have reported that the embedded mic works ok with
the current kernel, but the video do not. And that the video works ok
with the newer kernel, but the mic do not.
However, I did not upgrade to karmic and will wait until the final
version is available, so I can't say for sure. If you try it, please
post your findings here.
