Noob Question - Something like Windows system restore in Ubuntu

How noob?  aptitude shines at this type of task.

sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
sudo aptitude purge kubuntu-desktop

Aptitude is much better at handling dependencies IMO.  Probably why it 
is the suggested package manager for Ubuntu's 16yr old dad with about as 
many children, Debian.
