I think you are confusing "CLOSED pure email environment" (private or
in-office email) with "OPEN pure email environment" as any mailing
list is. And this other sentence:

proves that my feeling was right. Email conversations in closed,
tightly related groups are an entirely different situation. The error
is to think that email behavior which makes sense with friends or
coworkers is still right when talking with "strangers" (including
everybody who scans the archives). See my other post on TRIMMING for a
