That is probably just an indication that the guest additions are not
available and that it is not formally supported. Not having the guest
additions will make the graphics slower (in case you're using a
graphical desktop), the mouse will not be as fast as it could be and you
won't be able to share folders with the host. I'm not sure whether you
need an officially supported version, but it would be fairly simple to
test whether it works. Since it supports guests ranging from DOS to the
latest Linux and Windows version, I would estimate that there is a
reasonable chance that it will work with SCO UNIX as well.

Yes, possibly. But the tighter integration with kernel drivers is always
a problem when going from one kernel version to the next (at least
that's the way it was when I was using VMware Workstation). This is much
easier with Vbox.
