32 bit OS's are limited to 3 Gb of RAM. To use the full 4 Gb you own,
you need to either install the 64 bit Ubuntu (If this is an option) or
install the Physical Addressing Extensions (PAE) for the 32 bit OS. For
Ubuntu it amounts to installing the server kernel.
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server linux-image-server
linux-server
