Jaunty 64 bit firefox locks up my machine completely

this is most probably a graphics driver issue, triggered by firefox trying to render some element in the page. see

you may benifit from using this PPA which has some newer version of the graphics stack. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates and/or a newer kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
