can't access partition

Since I already removed Hardy, now I just want to create a partiion for data
that I can access from my single install of 9.04. in gparted, I formatted
both as ext 3 but I still can access the new partition. Is there something
else I am supposed to do? Can't seem to find anything else to do in the
gparted documentation.

thanks
