Email SW that permits saving files without html code.

Hello,

I submitted this question before and got answers.  However, I
ended up having to start my Ubuntu over and lost all of my
email.  I did not get around to copying down the replies.  I
do recall someone recommending a workaround.  I was using
Evolution (now I am using the browser interface of Comcast
mail and I don't like it).

Can some again recommend which email software that would 
allow me to save files without HTML code?

In the old Windows era I was using Eudora.  It enabled me to
save Google alerts and a few other similar files without any
HTML code.  I did get recommendations for this problem, but as
stated above I lost the files when I downloaded Xubuntu software
that conflicted with Ubuntu.  A rather drastic way to learn a 
very simple lesson of don't download unless one knows what it is.
