gksu gedit /etc/apt/source.list

uncomment the two lines that look like:

# deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe
# deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe

so they look like

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty universe

and save.

then run:

sudo apt-get update

when complete run

sudo apt-get install wicd
