Well, first this is a Ubuntu list, not Debian. Therefore I don't know if 
it is helpful to reference a thread on the Debian list. And from one of 
the posts in that thread it looks like the problem is solved already:

| cp arch/x86/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30-1

| and: 
|  mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.30-1 2.6.30.1 

Maybe you could explain here what the problem is in relation to Ubuntu? 
Probably I didn't read that thread carefully enough to see what it is.
