logical name: /dev/cdrom
                logical name: /dev/cdrw
                logical name: /dev/dvd
                logical name: /dev/dvdrw
                logical name: /dev/scd0
                logical name: /dev/sr0

Open mplayer, right click on the mplayer screen and select Preferences.
Click on 'Misc' and for DVD device ensure that it is: /dev/dvd.

Please provide the output of:

$ cat /etc/fstab
$ ls -l /media
