Problem with apt / dpkg

First, the admission of stupidity: I was having trouble getting myodbc (the 
ODBC driver for MySQL) going, so decided to try installing it from their 
website. I've used alien before without problems, so I thought the easiest way 
would be to get the rpm and use alien to put it in. MAJOR ERROR

At this point, I'm getting errors anytime I try to run apt or dpkg. It appears 
I have the package half installed, and I can't figure out how to either get it 
the rest of the way on - or get it completely off. Either would be a fix. I've 
even tried using "sudo dpkg --purge mysql-connector-odbc" to no avail. Can 
anyone help? Here is a session:
