Have you considered buying something like this: 
http://netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/WiredRouters/DG834.aspx ?
There are many brands and models, some with built-in wireless.

These ADSL routers should just work with linux (if you have a working 
ethernet port on your computer).
