Timed with the release of a report that details the decade long increase in
quality of the Ubuntu Über Ubiquarian operating system, which many users now
find to be equal in usability to Windows and OS X , Microsoft and Apple have
both filed for patents on new "Package Manager" technology.
According to Microsoft's announcement, users will be able to install new
software by simply saying, for example, "Clippy, please install microsoft
office as the administrator."
Apple's package manager is reported to be more sophisticated and will guess
what software users want based on usage habits, automatically applying
charges to the user's credit card.
Ubuntu's package manager, on the other hand, has remained largely unchanged
since its first revision in 2004.
