GUI update-manager called from aptitude

Strange, but not really a problem.  However, I would like to resolve it.

When I use aptitude (ncurses mode) and press u and U and g, the download 
is normally visually progressing in aptitude.  Today on one of the 
laptops (a prehistoric 400MHz Tecra800 256MiB) with 9.04 the 
apdate-manager was called instead.  I repeated the task, with the same 
result.  So eventually I just clicked install on the update-manager 
window button.

I could not see any related options in the configuration of aptitude.
My friend Google didn't help very much either.

Any idea where to look?
