You'd not believe the issues that appear on the OOo users list due to
rtf. My recommendation would be to avoid rtf at all costs. Even MS
Office has problems with some older rtf's. Further, there are high risk
security issues w/rtf & older versions of OOo.

You're actually better off importing/exporting in MS Word v rtf; primary
reason is that there are very few (if any) OOo resources working on rtf
filters.
