+1 to this.

I'm doing exactly this for a "server", but I have jaunty on a laptop, and 
soon I hope, a desktop.

When I want to run dev versions on the server, I simply install them in
/opt.

Trying to "chase" jaunty on a server would be more pain than I could 
endure, and I can take quite a bit!
