Hi Charlie,
What do you mean by "small" ?
Gnome itself is not small in terms of resources (CPU/RAM), so whatever
distrubtion you use, you will always have the same CPU/RAM
requirements.
If you mean "disk size", then a complete Ubuntu install is only about
2.1GB, which is not a lot to start with. You could alwyas install
Ubuntu and remove all un-needed packages to save some disk space
(OpenOffice, Gimp...).
I suggest you tell us exactly what you mean by "small", what you are
trying to achieve, what hardware you have, and what you want to do with.
Then people will be able to give useful advise ;-)
