The modem brand is Gnet. I haven't seen Hayes brand modems in the stores
here for years. Yes, I use dial-up because I tried high-speed and found
the house and/or local neighbourhood wiring wasn't able to support it.
I certainly wouldn't bother updating to a whole new edition of Ubuntu by
dial-up. That would be time to request the CD. I do, however,
download/update individual packages and system components. It has worked
well until recently. Perhaps, as a few responders have suggested, my
next stop is a chat with my ISP to find out if something is going on
there.
