I skipped 8.10 and went from 8.04 to 9.04. I have Intel and Nvidia video 
on this laptop, and I suspect that Linux is getting screwed somewhere, 
which is causing the slow downs. The desktop is fine, but anything 
requiring GL on it sucks big time - screensavers or apps. Worked fine 
since badger. Big slowdown, the fans kick in; an almighty mess. I've 
started to explore other distros to see whether this is an Ubuntu thing.
