Well... I'll let you know about pulse once I get this machine, where
pulse has been purged, to cooperate; if I open a tty1-4 while playing
rhythmbox it logs me out and puts me back at a gdm login screen. So I've
purged rhythmbox & am reinstalling. Note, that I also tested with Amorok
& Songbird, and neither of those programs have issues; in fact they do
not pause even during the tty login.
On my laptop, I only lose sound from rhythmbox until the tty login is
complete, then it resumes. The laptop has default pulseaudio installed.
