100% CPU history in Jaunty

Yeah, I know how to use the view options for the processes and have
looked at it in all configurations. Also, as I mentioned top returns
the same results and top displays everything by default anyway. Prior
to Jaunty I would be working away at the computer with the processor
load under half, the temperature around 35 degrees and the fan off
(since I use AMDs cool n quiet for the CPU fan). Now it is maxed all
the time, the temperature is above 50 and the fan is on most of the
time (although scaled to less than full speed). I'm still scratching
my head. I have used System Monitor, top, ps, Cronky and can't find
any programs that are responsible for 100% CPU usage
