I don't care about the last word. The issue of proxies ultimately comes
down to 'My network, My rules' even if a 'proper' smtp proxy is
involved. I do not see any logic or advantage in using a proxy for a
smtp client. The smtp server is set in the MUAs configuration. Rules for
natting in the firewall for smtp connections to specific hosts for port
25 or a blanket nat rule for port 587 and 465 are secure and sufficient
without getting an application to handle with the connection. MTAs going
through proxies are automatically suspect.

Maybe you can list out what advantages there are in handling smtp
connections on port 25 with an application and not with a
router/firewall/natbox.

Okay, so we shall let it die with your response to my request above for
a list of advantages in handling smtp connections at the application level.
