Widescreen DVD playback

Not all wide screen formats have the same ratio, so you may (or may not) 
have bars at the top and bottom of the screen even when viewing in full 
screen mode.

Does VLC have a "zoomed" mode? That might expand the image to fill the 
screen vertically at the expense of cropping (slightly) the left and 
right edges of the image.

I'm not a VLC user so I don't know it's options.
