EasyPeasy vs. Ubuntu Netbook Remix

Hey there,
I recently bought myself an Asus 1000HE Netbook.
I am new to the mobile computer concept in general, but not new to computers.
I am trying to find reliable sources for information. The guide that
came with it wasn't very informative and most of the content I saw on
the http://www.eeeusers.com site seems to be old or out of date (at
least on the Wiki...
I want to know what are best practices for battery care and if there's
a limitation on software.
I am know confused regarding the distros mentioned at the subject line:
Initially I have installed EasyPeasy 1.1, which I liked very much
(especially having the netbook-launcher in the background, which I now
miss)
I then read somewhere that the UNR is better and faster - to me it seems slower.
Also, following a tip on the site's Wiki, I work without the battery,
just the AC, while at home. now I notice a strage surge sensation when
working with the battery and holding the eee in my hand - like it
isn't grounded...
Can any of you point me in the rigaht direction to the answers? Maybe
a specific mailing list?
Thanks!
