subpixel rendering extremely slow

Hallöchen!

I just wondered why the transition to Jaunty made me feel that
several programs have become slower, then I used GtkPerf, and I
measured with "ordinary" anti-aliasing:

    GtkDrawingArea - Text - time: 0,74

And with subpixel rednering:

    GtkDrawingArea - Text - time: 11,86

Factor 16 in speed is, well, a *lot*. ;-) Given that subpixel
rendering is only a slight optical improvement, these numbers render
it unusable on my setup.

However, Hardy felt to be faster, so I wonder whether this is a
configuratio issue. I have an NVidia 6100 on-board chip. The
following packages are installed:

nvidia-180-modaliases
nvidia-173-modaliases
nvidia-96-modaliases
nvidia-96-kernel-source
nvidia-71-modaliases
nvidia-cg-toolkit
nvidia-common
nvidia-glx-96
nvidia-settings

According to NVidia-settings, the installed driver is called
"96.43.10".

Do you have any hints how I could improve the performance of
subpicel rendering on my computer? Thank you!

Tschö,
Torsten.
