    Here is another trick to check for Internet. Open a Terminal and type:

$ ping yahoo.com

Your system will type:

PING yahoo.com (209.131.36.159) 56(84) bytes of data.

and then start pinging. If this works you have the Internet. If it fails 
then your Internet is not working.
