Having connectivity is not all about being able to browse that accounts
only for port 80 traffic, i think if you look closely at his problem is
that he has a problem with Firefox as a software (perhaps some
misconfiguration)

Can you do ping to google.com for example.

Are other protocols working can you lets say connect via a GAIM or
Empathy? 
can you get updates via sudo apt-get update?

Post those here it will tell us more about your situation, and i am sure
someone will have a more constructive suggestion.
