Error 17 means it cant find a partition, I believe. Does this come up
after you choose a partition, or before you get to a GRUB menu?
Please provide some details about your system:
* What is your partition setup like? I assume you have a dual boot
setup, please elaborate?
* What version of ubuntu are you using/trying to use?
* When you say you cant boot using SuperGrubDisk, what version of
SGD are you using, and what error is it giving that doesn't
allow you to use it?
* A LiveCD isn't related to your GRUB install at all, so it's
highly unlikely that this error is making you not be able to
boot a liveCD... have you tried making sure the boot order on
your PC is correct so you can get into the liveCD (i.e. CD-ROM
first)?
* Why are you using testdisk to restore your windows partition?
* If you can get into a liveCD, the return from the command "sudo
fdisk -l", and the contents of your actual computer's (not the
liveCD's) /boot/grub/menu.lst file would be helpful. You will
need to get his by mounting your existing partition in the live
environment (with whatever method you prefer, be it gui or cli)
and navigate to the appropriate place.
Hope that helps!
