Starting Thunterbird.

Did you go to  Applications -->  Add/Remove..... and type Thunderbird in the
search box in the top right corner?  Then check the box next to Mozilla
Thunderbird Mail/News and click Apply Changes.

There are at least three ways to add Thunderbird and this is the easiest
way.
