Terminal hesitation - Karmic

Has anyone else with karmic noticed a hesitation in the terminal?

The best way I know to explain is that it is similar to SSHing into a 
system with a slow connection.  I can get a few characters typed before 
they show on the screen.  It's more annoying than anything.

karmic_64 on AMD Athalon_64 x2 core, 4 Gb ram and 2x 7200rpm hdds.  So I 
don't think hardware is the issue and I am not taxing the system in the 
least.  Scratch built from usb.  Terminal seems to be the only affected 
application.
