sound not working on compaq presario cq61 before and after compiling the new alsa drive

i installed jaunty on a compaq presario cq61 laptop. the sound is not
working. i followed the suggestion from these two sites;

which suggest an upgrade of also would fix the problem. the upgrade
went ok but still no sound. an suggestions?
