I _think_ you are referring to Nautilus?
Could be that you managed to expand the file window over the sidepane.
Take your mouse & move it to the far left where the sidepane should be.
The mouse cursor should change to <-> when it does, drag the pane
divider to the right to uncover the sidepane.
