Attempting to install from the addon panel (search/install) I get:
"Lightning" could not be installed because it is not compatible with
your Thunderbird build type (Linux_x86_64-gcc3). Please contact the
author of this item about the problem.
That is because it is trying to install the 32bit version. 64bit version
is here:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/1.0b1rc1/contrib/linux-x86_64/
And works (for me) with the lucid TB3 version:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100404
Lightning/1.0b1 Thunderbird/3.0.4
Enjoy :-) Of course the standard warnings apply... that is a release
candidate, so expect that data loss, pox on houses, etc may apply :-)
Also, you might run into conflicts when Ubuntu release their plugin, so
be aware.
Note: couldn't find the link for 64bit that you were refering to, even
checked:
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/download.html
Instead I just went to the Calendar dev group on mozilla.org
(mozilla.dev.apps.calendar) and found the 3/15 announcement for rc1.
