Maybe it's time to try a net installation as opposed to the CD? All of
the 10.04 alpha/beta installations I've done apart from a couple of
upgrades were netboot installations (booting from a PXE server) but
you should be able to use the alternative CD to boot and then install
from the net. It should be more or less the same bandwidth usage.
