This is a continuation of the thread about whether they've given up
fixing Lucid, 10.04, because this is now the third morning in a row I've
had no updates in spite of there still being serious problems.
The most serious of these is that I can't log in with the current kernel
(2.6.32-21-generic). I'm running xubuntu on a thinkpad R41e. If I boot
the previous kernel (2.6.32-20-generic), I get a black screen with
xubuntu and a mouse in the moon on it, then a grey screen with a larger
mouse over the xubuntu text, and then the login screen. With the newer
kernel, I get the mouse in the moon for a small number of seconds and
then the screen goes blank and never comes back. I can't get to the
terminals by ctr-alt-F<x> either.
A further irritation is that the power button doesn't actually do
anything in this state, so in order to reboot from this hang, I have to
disconnect the power cord and remove the battery and then push the power
button to turn the machine back on.
