One thing maybe not fully discussed is that the dropbox looks just
like part of the native filesystem:
halb at honey:~/Desktop$ ls -laF Dropbox/
total 28
drwxr-xr-x 5 halb halb 4096 2010-03-14 19:19 ./
drwxr-xr-x 6 halb halb 4096 2010-04-22 20:55 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 halb halb 29 2010-03-14 19:19 .dropbox
-rw-r--r-- 1 halb halb 1268 2010-02-11 06:28 Getting Started.rtf
drwxr-xr-x 15 halb halb 4096 2010-04-22 16:02 NewClient/
drwxr-xr-x 3 halb halb 4096 2010-03-14 19:19 Photos/
drwxr-xr-x 2 halb halb 4096 2010-03-14 19:19 Public/
That is my local system. If I 'cp' a file to the NewClient directory
within the Dropbox directory, that file is actually copied to the
dropbox server behind the scenes and is immediately available to
everybody I am sharing with on this project without them having to do
anything, which includes 1 diehard Mac User, and 2 semi-clueless
Windows users (and of course me on Ubuntu). It integrates into all
those filesystems and Desktops. Very useful for sharing in certain
situations.
