  given that i need some extra horsepower for a bunch of projects, i'm
looking at this laptop as my next purchase:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6821142&CatId=4938

  it's not perfect but, for the price, it appears to be a pretty good
deal.  my immediate regrets:

  * 5400 RPM HD instead of 7200 RPM, but i can live with that and it's
    fixable down the road

  * 1600x900 display when, really, i'd love a full 1920x1080 but that
    would kick the price up considerably

if i had more money to throw away, i'd go here:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6701575&csid=_23

but i can't justify the extra $600 for that. is there anything about
that first unit that would be a real show-stopper? i need more power
to do constant kernel compiles, run virtualbox and so on.

  thanks for any feedback.
