Strange Grub Problem / Error Message

Hey-

I just got a Cruzer Micro Flash Drive.  Cranked up the Vista partition to
check to see if it had U3 installed, which I intended to nuke.  Rebooted and
got a strange error message.

GRUB loading.
Ho:)' not found?yl??*1?
Aborted. Press any key to exit.

The :) looks more like one of those AOL emoticons and * looks more like a
round gear.

Flash did an upgrade while I was in Bill World but other than that it was a
quick check and then back to Ubuntu until the strange error message
appeared.

Any suggestions?
