You're on 10.04 on this, right? If this is 9.10, you have to tell us
before proceeding...
besides doing the above, add one more line (which I think you have
deleted) above the rest of the lines as follows...
UUID=a0227cea-6352-4132-953e-21c4db5c7901 / ext3
errors=remount-ro 0 1
again, on one line.
