File system read only? (was How do I get root access to delete a few folders)

I was able to delete those folders but for some reason Ubuntu keeps thinking my kindle is read only for a file system. In windows it works fine (it's like siberia I don't want to go there) 

I'm not sure as to what exactly is causing this problem. It was fine a few days ago. Have there been any issues with the latest kernal upgrade?
