See:

using-ypops-in-ubuntu.html
(you'll have to fix that link, I'm posting from the gmane website)
GIYF, all I did was to "pop" the string "ubuntu ypops" into google and this
was the first result. It looks like this works around the fact that
yahoo doesn't offer free pop3 support (neither does hotmail, BTW).
The info on ypops indicates that it's an opensource gateway.
My suggestion? Go ahead, use ypops until you find a better solution.
I think you'll eventually end up paying for pop3 with yahoo, which
is fine. However, you can probably get a better deal elsewhere.
Gmail offers free imap, for instance. Or, pay for you own domain
at ~5/mo and have someone set it up for you.
Really, I think the problem here is that you're trying to get pop3
from yahoo, who prefer that you pay for that service. Sure, ypops
works around that, but who knows when that'll be revoked?
