Also just installed the package on lucid (10.04) after ssh'ing into the
machine first to create the ~/.Xauthority file. So... not disputing your
comments, but still curious/confused.

lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ sudo lfwsetup
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ sudo ln -fs ~/.Xauthority /root/.Xauthority
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ sudo chown lucid.root ~/.Xauthority
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ ls -l .Xauthority
-rw------- 1 lucid root 59 2010-03-17 18:20 .Xauthority
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ sudo su
root at lucid-desktop:/home/lucid# cd /root
root at lucid-desktop:~# ls -l .Xauthority
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2010-03-17 18:25 .Xauthority ->
/home/lucid/.Xauthority
root at lucid-desktop:~# exit
exit
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$ apt-cache policy linux-firewall.org
linux-firewall.org:
  Installed: 2.7
  Candidate: 2.7
  Version table:
 *** 2.7 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
lucid at lucid-desktop:~$
