Workspace Switcher?

Though if you're using compiz you can at least enable desktop wall and
drag apps from desktop to desktop (you can drag them around the cube
too)...

I agree though that it's a bit annoying that the switcher doesn't do
what it used to, and I really don't like not being able to rename
desktops...
