Well, had he answered my other questions, we could probably have
extrapolated the chipset.

To which we now know his monitor is an A1706 which maxes at 1280X1024
(http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/acer-al1706-ab-lcd/1707-3174_7-31966776.html)
To the question of laptop, netbook or desktop, we know now that it's a desktop.
However, the questions "What kind of Acer?" and "What's the make/model
of the screen" were intended to get him to tell us WHAT computer he
has and what monitor he's using.
He told us what monitor he's using, but the only answer we got on
make/model is April 2007/Desktop.
As for drivers, given his response to my questions previously, it's
probably a fairly safe bet that he's A: new to Ubuntu or Linux in
general, and B: more an average user than a hardware geek, so chances
that he's gone about installing drivers are about 50/50 and chances he
can tell you what chipset is pushing video are about nil.
I could, of course, be wrong about those suppositions. But probably not.
Jose, my comments are not meant to be taken as being mean, by the way.
What I get from your question and response so far is that you are not
very familiar with hardware at the low level. And that's fine.
Knowing that, let me ammend some of my questions:
What make/model of computer are you using?
As Johnnylee asks, Have you tried installing any drivers for your
video card on your own? If so, what ones?
Do you know what make/model of video card is in your computer? If so,
let us know.
How comfortable are you with the command line in Linux?
