This is normal. Skype works for me with all the sound devices set to
PulseAudio server (local). Try right-clicking on the sound icon
(assuming you’re using gnome) and checking the USB microphone is
selected an unmuted. If this doesn’t work, ask again and say what
webcam/microphone you have. Maybe someone will have specific help.
